BOB-CAT recently introduced the QuickCat 36-inch stand-on mower. The QuickCat is also available in 48-, 52- and 61-inch deck options. The 36-inch model gives users the ability to mow smaller areas and navigate in tighter spaces. It features a 7 mph mowing speed and 9 mph transport speed, Zero-T drive tires with improved ride and traction, operation station placement for stability and a low fuel tank (5.1 gallons) placement for improved balance on uneven surfaces. “We’ve received such great feedback on the QuickCat, and people want a more compact mower for smaller properties,” says Matt Donohue, BOB-CAT brand director. “That’s where the QuickCat 36-inch comes in.”
Dow AgroSciences recently introduced MatchPoint insecticide, a new option in annual bluegrass weevil (ABW) larvae control. With the power of spinosad and a new lignin technology, MatchPoint gives athletic field managers and golf course superintendents improved ABW control with application flexibility. This advanced formulation enhances photostability, providing more consistent control, the company says. MatchPoint controls the 1st and 2nd instars in the plant. Dow AgroSciences says that when applied according to label directions, MatchPoint will control up to the 5th instar and will stop ABW feeding immediately. In addition to ABW, MatchPoint is reported to control armyworms, black turfgrass ataenius, cutworms, fleas and sod webworms.
Turfgrass grower Buy Sod — which has nine sod farms spanning North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia and Georgia — will begin offering TifTuf bermudagrass this spring. TifTuf, released by the University of Georgia, is noted for its improved drought tolerance, using 38 percent less water than Tifway. “We so strongly believe in the sustainability characteristics of TifTuf that we have planted it across our entire production footprint and are reducing or eliminating the production of other varieties that require more water,” says Charles Harris, Buy Sod co-owner. “TifTuf is more aggressive than Tifway and provides superior wear and traffic tolerance, excellent cold tolerance, faster spring green-up and excellent fall color retention.”
