James Andrew McAfee passed away on Jan. 31, 2015 in Edinburg, Texas after a lengthy battle with Pulmonary Fibrosis.

A turfgrass industry veteran with Texas A&M Extension Service, McAfee was a frequent speaker at Sports Turf Managers Association events and was popular among its members.

McAfee received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Texas A&M University and his doctorate from Purdue University specializing in turfgrass sciences. He spent 40 years in the turfgrass industry, finishing his career has an Associate Professor and Turfgrass Specialist with the Texas Agrilife Extension and Research Center in Dallas.

Throughout his long career, McAfee received numerous awards and recognitions for his knowledge, service and contributions to the field. He belonged to several professional organizations including the Texas Turgrass Association and Sports Turf Manager Association.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to fund a scholarship.
