The Minnesota Park and Sports Turf Managers Association (MPSTMA) presented the 2014 Field of the Year award to the City of Lakeville’s Steve Michaud Park. The annual award, sponsored by Turfco, recognizes athletic facilities in the state for outstanding maintenance, aesthetics and overall playing conditions. Representatives from the City of Lakeville park maintenance staff accepted the award in March at the annual MPSTMA meeting in Minneapolis.
“The facilities at Steve Michaud Park are among the highest caliber in the state,” said Gregg Brodd, presenter of this year’s award and regional sales manager for Turfco. “Sports teams can expect premier and consistent playing conditions at the park, and its fields have set the bar for other recreational areas in the region.”
Athletic facilities at Steve Michaud Park currently include 11 soccer fields and one baseball field. Each season the park hosts more than 1,500 soccer games and 2,600 hours of game and practice time. The facility also includes a community playground, park building and concession area and hosts many summer camps, recreation programs, and community functions throughout the year.
