Michael J. Walker has written “The Field Guide: The Layout and Dimensions of Sports Fields,” a book that illustrates how to lay out a regulation sports field according to its rules, associated levels and age groups. It presents comprehensive diagrams, sport histories and information on rules and regulations. Walker is a landscape architect specializing in the master planning of athletic and park facilities.
NYSTA Holds Regional Conferences
The New York State Turfgrass Association held its Southeast Regional Conference in Suffern, N.Y., drawing 296 attendees. Dr. John Kaminski, Pennsylvania State University, presented a half-day seminar called “Disease Management for Turfgrass,” as well as sessions on nozzle and sprayer calibration and algae management. Jeff Lane, a lobbyist with The Vandervort Group, LLC, representing the New York Alliance for Environmental Concerns, gave legislative updates and reviewed turfgrass industry issues.
Nearly 200 people attended NYSTA’s Western Regional Conference in Buffalo, N.Y. Richard Buckley, Rutgers University, presented a session on basic turf diseases, and Dr. Frank Rossi, Cornell University, gave presentations on sports turf, late-season fertility and snow mold.
Name Change for Nolt
Nolt Environmental Products, Inc. has changed its name to Nascent Environmental Products, Inc. The company has reorganized but will continue to provide its Micro+Plus products. It has also established a new partnership with Turf Feeding Systems, Inc., Houston, Texas, to provide fertigation systems.
Turf Teq Receives AE 50 Award
Turf Teq’s model 1305BC Brush Cutter was awarded an AE 50 Award by the American Society of Agricultural & Biological Engineering. The awards were presented at the ASABE annual international meeting in Reno, Nev.
Iida Named President of Kubota Tractor
Kubota Corp. has named Satoshi Iida as president of Kubota Tractor Corp., Torrance, Calif. Iida, who has a doctorate in mechanical and systems engineering, has been with Kubota for 29 years. Previously, he served as president of Kubota Europe.
Iida succeeds Tetsuji “Mike” Tomita, who is now president of the farm and industrial machinery consolidated division and general manager of international operations headquarters in Osaka, Japan.
Agrotain’s New Facility Surpasses Production Goals
Production at Agrotain International’s Stabilized Nitrogen Center in St. Louis, Mo., is tracking ahead of expectations. The facility is producing over 200 tons of stabilized nitrogen products per day, most of which is being used to fill existing orders. The company expects to increase warehouse inventories throughout the summer.
Rain Bird Launches
Rebate Resource Guide
Rain Bird has launched an online water savings rebate and incentive resource guide at www.rainbird.com/iuow. Organized by state, the guide is designed to help green industry professionals and their customers learn about the various financial incentives available to offset the cost of irrigation system upgrades, including the implementation of products such as ET controllers, rotary nozzles, drip irrigation systems and rain sensors. It includes descriptions of currently available rebate and incentive programs, including start and stop dates, related Web sites, contact information and a list of Rain Bird products eligible for financial incentives.
Sod Solutions’ Celebration bermudagrass was chosen for the playing surface at Raymond James Stadium, Tampa, Fla., home of the National Football League’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The turfgrass was installed by Quality Turf L.C., Lithia, Fla.
Baseline Adds Distributor
Atlantic Irrigation Specialties, Inc. has agreed to enter into a distributorship relationship with Baseline, Inc. The territory covered by the agreement includes New York (including Long Island), southern Connecticut, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware, northern Virginia and Washington, D.C.

Distribution Agreements Broaden
Availability of Nitamin Fertilizers
Georgia-Pacific Plant Nutrition announced that three distributors in the southeastern United States have added Nitamin Steady-Delivery fertilizers to their existing product lines. Coastal AgroBusiness, Greenville, N.C., will distribute Nitamin products in the Carolinas and Virginia; Howard Fertilizer & Chemical Co., Orlando, Fla., will cover Florida; and Triangle Chemical Co., Macon, Ga., will serve the Georgia and Florida markets.
Yankees Sod and Seed Available
Fans of the New York Yankees can own the same grass used in the new Yankee Stadium through a local licensing agreement between Major League Baseball and Stadium Associates, LLC, a New Jersey-based startup teamed with DeLea Sod Farms, East Northport, N.Y. UGA Licenses New Bermudagrass
The University of Georgia Research Foundation, Inc. licensed a new bermudagrass to New Concept Turf, a Georgia-based company. Wayne Hanna, a professor of plant breeding and genetics, developed TifGrand, which thrives in both sun and shade. New Concept contracted The Turfgrass Group, Fort Valley, Ga., to exclusively handle licensing of TifGrand for sod production.
GreenJacket Adds Reed to Sales Team
Jim Reed and Reed Irrigation Services have become the newest members of GreenJacket’s sales team. Reed and his staff have years of sports field and golf course sales experience in specialty turf-related products. He will be responsible for sales and factory communications for Illinois.
