University of Illinois Installs FieldTurf

Memorial Stadium, on the campus of the University of Illinois, will have a new FieldTurf surface installed prior to the 2008 NCAA football season. The new surface will officially debut on September 6 when UI hosts Eastern Illinois for their home opener.

Pfaff Joins Becker Underwood

Katrina Pfaff has joined Becker Underwood as field development specialist for the company’s horticulture and specialties group. In her new position, Pfaff will focus on maintaining and improving the company’s lineup of beneficial nematode products. She will also be involved in field trials and research projects, and will serve as a resource for research collaborators and growers.

Gerflor to Supply Courts for Olympics

Gerflor Taraflex, through International Table Tennis Federation and International Volleyball Federation agreements, will supply courts for volleyball and table tennis tournaments during the Olympic Games in Beijing. With 14 volleyball courts in seven locations and two table tennis sites, there will be about 160,000 square feet of Gerflor Sports Flooring at the games.

Osiris Welcomes Barton

Rebecca Barton has joined Osiris Corporation as director of marketing. Previously, Barton was assistant vice president and business analyst for Bank of America Securities, Healthcare Corporate and Investment Banking Group, focusing on reporting and forecasting revenues, tracking health care companies and coordinating marketing projects. She has a bachelor’s degree from Kansas State University and a master’s in business administration from the Stern School of Business at New York University.

West Coast Turf Goes South of the Border

West Coast Turf has announced the formation of  West Coast Turf de Mexico, a full-service sod nursery offering custom sod production, complete turf installation and hydroseeding/stolonizing services. The nursery is located in Los Planes, Mexico.

TifSport Installed at McAfee Coliseum

West Coast Turf, the only licensed TifSport bermudagrass producer on the West Coast, supplied 123,200 square feet of TifSport to McAfee Coliseum, home of the Oakland Raiders and Oakland Athletics. The installation went smoothly and was completed in three days.

SourceOne Expands

SourceOne has completed a move into a new, expanded facility in Lincoln, Neb. The company now has over 70,000 square feet of production space for manufacturing products for the automotive, aviation, agricultural, construction, athletic and consumer markets.

John Steinbacher

Steinbacher Joins Grigg Brothers

Grigg Brothers has added international turfgrass and plant nutrient expert John Steinbacher to its management staff. He will be in charge of the foliar fertilizer firm’s international division. Steinbacher holds a bachelor’s degree in golf course design and agronomy and a master’s degree in architecture with an emphasis on land-use planning.

Un Joins BASF

BASF Turf & Ornamentals has hired Thavy Un as marketing manager. In her new role, Un will focus on developing marketing strategies, planning and program development. Her responsibilities will include overseeing financial operations, forecasting and production in collaboration with manufacturing, regulatory, formulation and product labeling groups.

Prior to joining the Turf & Ornamentals team, Un held several positions within BASF’s Agricultural Division, including global marketing manager for fungicides and plant growth regulators.

Middleton Awards Scholarships

In its 2008 What’s Bugging You? Youth Achievement Award Program,  Middleton Lawn & Pest Control presented $2,000 Achievement Awards to six overall winners, as well as $500 Achievement Awards to one winner from each of the 22 participating counties within Middleton’s service territory. The awards will go toward the winners’ college expenses.

Middleton received more than 400 entries in the written category and nearly 100 entries in the visual category, with themes that explored the issues of sexism, prejudice, political spending, racism, poverty, health care, body image, environmental concerns and many others.

The winners were: overall written category, Crystal Amanda Rodriguez, Michael Worley and Timothy Foster; overall visual category, Bianca Velazquez, Evan Lovejoy and Amy M.
