PGMS to Honor Top Parks and Recreation Areas

The Professional Grounds Management Society is looking to honor the nation’s top parks and recreation areas with its Green Star Awards. The awards program brings national recognition to grounds maintained with a high degree of excellence. There are 15 categories: small sites; residential landscapes; public works sites; shopping areas; hospitals or institutions; government buildings or complexes; cemeteries or memorial parks; industrial, commercial sites or office parks; parks, recreation areas or playgrounds; multiple sites under management companies; condominium or apartment complexes; hotels, motels or resorts; amusement parks, theme parks or zoos; athletic fields, professional fields or golf courses; and school grounds, university and college grounds or urban university grounds.

The deadline for entries is August 1, 2008. Further information, including an official entry form and qualifications, is available at www.pgms.org/greenstars.

PLANET Wins Award of Excellence

The Professional Landcare Network (PLANET) won an Award of Excellence in the 2008 Associations Advance America Awards. The awards are conducted by the American Society of Association Executives and The Center for Association Leadership. PLANET received the award for its Renewal & Remembrance at Arlington National and Historic Congressional cemeteries. The honor automatically puts PLANET’s entry in the running for the 2008 Associations Advance America Summit Award, the highest level of recognition. The Summit awards will be announced in September.

Dodgers Announce Stadium Improvement Plan

The Los Angeles Dodgers announced a multifaceted stadium improvement plan that will bring modern amenities to Dodger fans while preserving the tradition of the historic venue. The improvements will include the additions of Dodger Way, a new tree-lined entrance and landscaped plaza where fans can gather beyond center field; Green Necklace, which will transform parking lots into landscaped, outdoor walkways; and Top of the Park, a large-scale, outdoor plaza. Past improvements include replacing all of the seats in the stadium bowl, planting a new field and upgrading the warning track. The improvements are planned to be completed by opening day of the 2012 season.

Dover Acquires Neptune

Dover Corporation has acquired Neptune Chemical Pump Company. Neptune is now part of Dover’s newly formed Pump Solutions Group within the Fluid Management segment.

Pacific Coast Seed Welcomes Gillette

Pacific Coast Seed has added Tyler Gillette as an account representative. His responsibilities will include sales and marketing for the turfgrass division, working with public and private specifiers to emphasize the development of seeding programs, and providing value-added service to new and existing customers. Gillette graduated from Miami University with a bachelor’s in business. Prior to joining Pacific Coast Seed he worked in the areas of erosion control, operations management and distribution logistics.

Dover Acquires Neptune

Dover Corporation has acquired Neptune Chemical Pump Company. Neptune is now part of Dover’s newly formed Pump Solutions Group within the Fluid Management segment.
