Watertronics, Inc. announced five staff changes and additions. John Swindle was promoted to national sales and marketing manager. Swindle has been with the company for four years. Rick Heidvogel, who has over 20 years of experience in the irrigation industry, returned to Watertronics as national sales manager for the landscape market. Ken Stone was hired as the mid-South regional sales manager and John Van Der Cruyssen as Atlantic regional sales manager. Greg Salisbury was hired for technical sales. He has 20 years of experience in servicing, designing, manufacturing and selling irrigation pump systems.
STI Completes Installation
Synthetic Turf International (STI) has completed the installation of a flag football field at the Lester H. White Boys & Girls Club of Broward County’s NFL Youth Education Town Center.
Designed at approximately three-quarters of the size of a regulation football field, the project included the removal of over 400 tons of material from the club’s existing multipurpose field. Gravel and PVC pipe were utilized to provide adequate drainage prior to the installation of 32,000 square feet of Sports Turf XP.
Online Turfgrass Program Grows
Penn State announced that an articulation agreement will give more students the opportunity to apply credits toward a bachelor’s degree in Penn State’s online turfgrass program. Catawba Valley Community College and Sandhills Community College recently signed agreements that facilitate access to Penn State’s online bachelor’s degree in turfgrass science.
Lohmann Completes Notre Dame Projects
Lohmann Sports Fields has completed two high-profile projects at the University of Notre Dame. The entire field at Notre Dame Stadium was stripped and resodded with bluegrass imported from Colorado. The company also built a new softball field on the South Bend, Ind., campus.
NYSTA Awards Scholarships
The New York State Turfgrass Association presented scholarships to students enrolled in accredited turf management programs. The $600 John Cornman Scholarship was awarded to Jarrett Pilkington, SUNY Delhi. New York state Turfgrass Scholarships were awarded to SUNY Delhi students Jesse Bulaga, Aaron Crouse, Eric Newell, Chad Borden and Phillip Weatherbee.
Winners of the $1,000 S.V. Moffett III Scholarships were Cameron Rae, Cornell University, Christopher Ellsmore, SUNY Delhi, and Jonathan Ulmer, SUNY Cobleskill. A $1,000 Hahn Memorial Scholarship was presented to Jon Swasey, SUNY Cobleskill. Scholarships in the amount of $500 were awarded to SUNY Delhi students Marc Francis and David Wilcox.
Jacobsen Welcomes Turfgrass Students
Jacobsen recently opened its doors to local high school students studying turfgrass management in a program designed to prepare them for career opportunities. The students were from Nation Ford High School, Fort Mill, S.C., one of a few public high school programs designed to teach the skills needed for success in the turf industry.
Jacobsen’s management team gave the students a guided tour of the headquarters and manufacturing plant. Students saw how turf equipment is manufactured, tested and prepared for distribution.
Brock USA Changes Name
Due to the growth of Brock USA in Europe and around the globe, the company has changed their name to Brock International. Brock is a drainage and impact layer that replaces the stone and pads commonly used under synthetic turf.
Jacobsen Expands Dealer Network
Jacobsen has expanded the territories of three existing dealerships and added a new dealer to its national authorized dealer network.
Kansas Golf & Turf, Wichita, Kan., will now serve the northeast corner of Kansas and the western half of Missouri in addition to the areas of Kansas that is has covered for over 15 years. Luber Brothers, Inc., Dallas, Texas, will serve customers in southeast Texas, northern Texas, Oklahoma and western Arkansas. Midwest Golf & Turf, Cincinnati, Ohio, has expanded to serve Michigan and the northwest corner of Ohio in addition to its current territory of Kentucky, Indiana and the southwest corner of Ohio.
Tri-State Pump & Controls, Liberty, S.C., is the newest authorized Jacobsen dealer for customers in North Carolina and South Carolina, except the coastal region.
