Turf Sewing Machines Launches Website
Turf Sewing Machines launched a new website, www.sewingsports.com, aimed at sports fields and stadiums and offering industrial machines for any application. The website brings together the entire NC lineup of custom industrial sewing equipment. It includes machinery for sewing tarps, covers, awnings, nets, turf, logos, apparel, seats, memorabilia, uniforms and more.
PrimeraTurf joins forces with Nature’s Wonder
PrimeraTurf has formed a strategic alliance with Nature’s Wonder to bring its APEX-10 product to market under the PrimeraOne brand name. APEX-10 is a proprietary liquid organic formula made from peat extract. APEX-10 will be available exclusively through PrimeraTurf members carrying the PrimeraOne brand of products.

Researchers Partner with Sod Producers
University of Florida turfgrass researchers have partnered with 21 Florida sod producers from the Florida Sod Growers Cooperative to form Turf Research Florida, a grower-funded research initiative. The research group will seek out new and improved zoysiagrass varieties, particularly those that are disease-resistant. Sod Solutions is coordinating this cooperative effort and will be the licensing and marketing agent for new grasses resulting from the program.
Becker Underwood Launches New Website
Becker Underwood has relaunched its www.beckerunderwood.com website. The newly updated site features improved navigation, better product information and a more streamlined experience for locating products online. Videos and improved photography are being incorporated onto the product pages. The new site also offers an improved search function, Find-a-Representative feature, recent news releases and the company’s Sustainability Initiative.
Agrium Offers Smarter Ways To Grow
Agrium Advanced Technologies announced the debut of the Smarter Ways to Grow Tour, a series of three-day educational events offering turf and ornamental professionals from across the country an exclusive experience featuring the latest in fertilizer technology and best-practice management. Qualified professionals will receive invitations from AAT sales representatives to attend the event, scheduled for AAT’s corporate headquarters in Loveland, Colo., plus Harmony Community and Golf Course, and Colorado State University in nearby Fort Collins, Colo.
Jacobsen Hires Sales Managers, Hosts Student Event
Jacobsen added three new territory sales managers. Kevin Hutchins supports western Nevada, California and Baja California. Darrin Batisky serves New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio, West Virginia, Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire and Quebec. Don Barowsky is responsible for Montana, Oregon, Idaho, Utah and parts of Wyoming, Washington and Nevada.
Jacobsen hosted over 30 college seniors from top turfgrass programs around the world as part of its Future Turf Managers event. The annual event gives students a unique opportunity to experience professional turfgrass management at the highest level. Students visit with top superintendents and field managers, test drive a variety of professional turf equipment, learn from industry organizations and meet with key Jacobsen executives.
Registration Open for UMass Field Day
Registration is open for the University of Massachusetts Turf Research Field Day on August 1, 2012. This year’s event will be held at UMass Joseph Troll Turf Research Center in South Deerfield, Mass. It will focus on the research currently taking place at the center, as well as on research being conducted at other locations by UMass Turf Program faculty, staff and graduate students. Current research includes studies on the biology and integrated management of turf-damaging insects and diseases, short and long-term weed management, responsible fertilizer and water use, pesticide fate and wear tolerance. Ostara Raises $14.5 Million to Launch Expansion
Ostara Nutrient Recovery Technologies, Inc. announced the completion of a $14.5 million private equity financing to continue expansion of its nutrient recovery technology in the municipal market, and to fund industrial-scale applications for treating wastewaters. Led by VantagePoint Capital Partners, a global investor in energy innovation and efficiency, the financing also included existing Ostara investor, London-based Frog Capital, and a group of new investors including Waste Resources Fund L.P., a fund managed by FourWinds Capital Management.
Netafim Names New District Sales Managers
Netafim USA expanded its sales and marketing activities in California and the south central region with three new district sales managers. Omar Alcantara will oversee sales and marketing efforts in Southern California/south counties; Bill Millward will represent Netafim in Southern California/north counties; and Kevin Wood will cover Louisiana, New Mexico and south central Texas.
IFH Group Names Ellefsen President
The IFH Group has named Keith Ellefsen as president. Ellefsen takes over the presidential duties from James King Jr., who retains his position as CEO. Before being named president, Ellefsen served as vice president of operations and chief operating officer since 2006. He joined the IFH Group in 1999, when it was known as Sauk Valley Equipment Co., as research manager, then moved to plant manager. He holds a bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering from Southwestern College.
