If your field is showing its age, or even if you just want some advice on construction or maintenance, the last thing you need is an uninformed opinion.

The American Sports Builders Association (ASBA), the trade association for those involved in the design, construction and supply of materials for athletic facilities, offers its Certified Field Builder (CFB) program, and can share free information on those who have obtained this certification. The Certified Field Builder Program was developed to help raise professional standards and to improve the practice of field construction.

To achieve the designation of CFB, individuals must:

  1. Complete an application documenting a specified amount of sports field construction experience.
  2. Achieve a passing score on a comprehensive examination on field construction and maintenance.

An alphabetical list of individuals with the CFB credential is available by visiting on the ASBA website. listing includes contact information, so that it’s possible to find builders in a specific geographic region.
