Barenbrug Hires Turf Product Manager

Barenbrug USA has hired John Rector as turf product manager. Rector was most recently with Ewing Irrigation and has actively worked in the turf and landscape industry for the past 32 years. He has a bachelor’s degree in ornamental horticulture from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, and was an active turf and landscape pest advisor for 20 years in California.

Xtreme Turf Prepares Pittsburg State Field for New Turf

After years of use, the 2011 Division II National Champions at Pittsburg State, Kansas, are getting a new field. Xtreme Turf Makeover, a full-service synthetic turf restoration and repair company, completed infill extraction, cleaning and turf removal to get the stadium ready for the new turf. The field is expected to be fully installed in time for the start of fall sports season.

Hunter Inducted Into Green Industry Hall of Fame

Edwin J. Hunter, inventor and founder of Hunter Industries, has been posthumously inducted into the Green Industry Hall of Fame, an organization dedicated to honoring individuals who have made lasting contributions to the betterment of the green industry. According to the Hall of Fame, Hunter received the honor because “his efforts and contributions have proven valuable in ensuring the development and future of our industry.” Such contributions include the world’s first irrigation controller, plastic sprinkler, rotor, plastic valve, valve-in-head golf course sprinkler and stream rotor.

Toro Celebrates 50 Years in Underground Irrigation

Fifty years ago, the Toro Co. purchased Moist O’Matic, Riverside, Calif., which manufactured plastic irrigation products. That purchase gave Toro its start in the underground irrigation business. Throughout the next several decades, Toro made multiple acquisitions to enter new markets and product categories, and bolster its position in the industry. Today, the company owns over 225 irrigation patents and manufactures a complete line of irrigation solutions including sprays, nozzles, rotors, valves, controllers, sensors, software, services and more. The Toro irrigation business is still headquartered in Riverside.

Nelson Named CEO and President of Curtis

The board of directors of Curtis Industries, LLC announced the appointment of Scott Nelson to the position of CEO and president. Nelson succeeds a retiring John Rachwalski, who will remain on the board of directors and a consultant to the company. With 26 years of experience in the construction equipment industry, Nelson most recently worked for Doosan Infracore Construction Equipment.

Shaw Sportexe Changes Name

Shaw Industries announced that it is changing the name of its synthetic turf sports division from Shaw Sportexe to Shaw Sports Turf. The company made the name change to represent the full nature of its products and services, which have grown significantly since its purchase of Sportexe Construction Services in 2009. In the last two years, Shaw has tripled tufting capacity, added fiber extrusion and in-house secondary coating capabilities, vertically integrated the manufacturing and supply chain, constructed a Sports Science Laboratory, acquired Southwest Greens and partnered with Closure Turf.

PTI Completes Transformation of Vegas Stadium Field

Pro Turf International turned the artificial surface at Sam Boyd Silver Bowl Stadium in Las Vegas, Nev., into a natural playing surface for a soccer match. PTI utilized a sod farm for the production and harvest of the Tifway 419 bermudagrass. The company’s fertilizer, Ultimate Turf, was used throughout the process. Heavy plastic sheeting was laid over the artificial surface at the stadium, and then the thick-cut sod was placed over the plastic sheeting.
