CWSLogoSince 2011, the beloved summer tradition that is the College World Series — the NCAA Division I Baseball Championship — has taken place at TD Ameritrade Park in Omaha, Nebraska.

This year’s event, once again at TD Ameritrade, takes place June 17-29. (The event has been held in Omaha since 1950, previously at Johnny Rosenblatt Stadium.)

The facility, which hosted the Big Ten Baseball Conference Tournament last month and also hosts Creighton University baseball games, is cared for by head groundskeeper and turf manager Dan Blank.

Blank, a native of Winona, Minnesota, has worked at TD Ameritrade since it opened in 2011. He previously had worked for minor league baseball teams in Birmingham, Alabama, and Louisville, Kentucky, before becoming turf manager for the Triple-A Buffalo Bisons. He took the job in Omaha in the fall of 2010.

The crew for the College World Series consists of about 20 temporary groundskeepers, along with Blank and Eric Williams, the full-time assistant head groundskeeper. The outfield grass is a blend of Kentucky bluegrass and perennial ryegrass, with original sod from Graff’s Turf Farms.
