How did you land a job with the StubHub Center?

“I accepted a job with Los Angeles Galaxy in the summer of 2005 and continued to work with them during the school year while I attended Cal Poly Pomona. In 2009, I graduated from college and was promoted to Head Groundskeeper. I also joined the Sports Turf Managers Association in 2005, which has been a great forum for networking, sharing best practices and increasing my knowledge in the industry.”

With a full-schedule of events this summer, how do you plan to maintain the field?

“Communication is a big key to success in my book. Here at the StubHub Center, my staff and I work closely with coaches and players to ensure expectations are met. It is important to manage expectations by providing updates on the field, especially surrounding events and concerts. By doing so, everyone is on the same page.”

What type of grass is the StubHub Center?

“We have Bandera Bermuda over seeded with Rye. However, after events we are often tasked with replacing portions of the field due to various wear-and-tear.”

What has been your favorite event so far?

“That’s a tough call, because I love every event we host, but I’d have to say in July 2009 when there was a Coldplay concert, followed by LA Galaxy vs. AC Milan.”

What events are on the horizon this summer?

“This summer is shaping up to be an exciting one for the StubHub Center. We will host the Guerrero-Martinez boxing fight in June. The CrossFit Games are rapidly approaching and will kick-off on July 21, with events taking place on our natural grass stadium field. We also hosted WangoTango in mid-May and are hosting a CONCACAF Gold Cup match on July 8. Finally, we are excited to host the opening match for the 2015 International Champions Cup on July 11 when LA Galaxy will compete against Club America from Mexico. As well, we will have eight LA Galaxy home games from June through August.”
