News from Toro
Toro partnered with the Rose Bowl to help prepare the game field for the 2010 Rose Bowl and BCS National Championship games. A longtime partner of the Rose Bowl, Toro is the exclusive provider of turf maintenance equipment and precision irrigation systems.
In response to the earthquake that devastated Haiti, Toro donated $10,000 to the American Red Cross International Response Fund to aid in the relief efforts. Additionally, the company committed to matching all employee contributions to the Red Cross through March 1, 2010.
Motz Acquires Infill Technology
The Motz Group purchased the assets of U.S. Greentech, LLC, Dalton, Ga., acquiring the intellectual property rights for coating and pigmenting silica sand for use as a turf infill. Motz also acquired All Sports Surfaces LLC, Longview, Texas, securing exclusive ownership of the alternative infill. The newly formed company has been incorporated as USGreentech, LLC and has named their coated sand infill Envirofill. The product will be distributed by Target Technologies International, Inc.
STMA Elects Board, Presents Awards
The Sports Turf Managers Association elected its 2010 officers and directors, who took office during the annual meeting and conference. The officers are president Chris Calcaterra, immediate past president Abby McNeal, president-elect Troy Smith, vice president Chad Price and secretary-treasurer James Michael Goatley Jr.. The directors are Larry DiVito, Martin Kaufman, Rene Asprion, Kevin Meredith, Jody Gill, Ron Hostick, David Pinsonneault and Pamela Sherratt.
Nine Field of the Year winners were honored during the conference. They include McNair Field, Forest City, N.C.; Whataburger Field, Corpus Christi, Texas; War Memorial Stadium Field, Union City, Tenn.; Lambeau Field, Green Bay, Wis.; SDJA Field at San Diego Jewish Academy, San Diego, Calif.; Community America Ballpark, Kansas City, Kan.; Atlee High School Varsity Softball Field, Mechanicsville, Va.; Patricia Wilson Field at Stetson University, DeLand, Fla.; and Infinity Park, Glendale, Colo.
STMA presented its Founders Awards to David Rulli, Jeffco Stadium, Lakewood, Colo., Dick Ericson Award; Dr. Anthony Koski, Colorado State University, Dr. William H. Daniel Award; Craig Potts, Texas A&M, George Toma Golden Rake Award; and Tom Burns, Diamond Pro/TXI, Harry C. Gill Memorial Award.
